Issues Related to H.323 Calls, CentreCom Calls and H.323 GateKeeper

 

What version of H.323 stack you are using?

How Do I Find out Whether My Unit is Registered to a H.323 Gatekeeper?

How Do I Configure a CentreCom Account with My Unit?

First, turn off the H.323 GateKeeper Mode by checking "off" for the "Use H.323 GateKeeper" under the "Phone Numbering Plan (part 2)" folder on the V-Express.

Second, Select the "CentreCom" option from the ITSP Service Provider list on the ITSP Service folder in the V-Express. Enter the Access number (don't put "1" before the access number) and passcode provided by CentreCom in the corresponding fields. If you configure 2 CentreCom accounts on your unit (Release 2.8 or later supports 2 accounts), the phone 1 port will use the first account  and the phone port 2 will use the 2nd account.

Save your configuration back to the node and reset the unit.

Problems with NetMeeting Call

Problem: When make a NetMeeting call from the V-Server (fxs port) to a PC (or vice versa), the phone attached to the V-Server can't hear anything (NetMeeting side can hear).

Fix: 

1. Check the "Network Bandwidth" option (it is "Bandwidth Settings" under NetMeeting 3.0) and make sure you have selected "28800 bps or faster modem" option. The setting can be accessed from "Tools--> Option--> general tab" from the NetMeeting Main screen.

2. Make sure the Gatekeeper option under the Phone Numbering Plan is turned off. Otherwise the NetMeeting call will be forwarded to the Gatekeeper instead of the NetMeeting.

How to Make a Phone Call Using a Pre-configured CentreCom Account from My Unit?

If you already configured a CentreCom Account on your unit, you can call any PSTN number by dialing that number with a *0 prefix. For example, if you are to call a PSTN number (301) 916-7600, you should dial *0-1-301-916-7600. "#" can be added to the end of the number to send the numbers right away. See the previous entry for details on how to configure a CentreCom Account.

If you configured 2 CentreCom accounts, Phone port 1 will use the first account and phone port 2 will use the 2nd account.

 

How to Configure a Direct H.323 Voice Gateway to the V-Server?

To configure a direct voice gateway to the V-Server, turn the Direct Gateway option on and enter the H.323 gateway IP address in the field under "Phone Numbering Plan (part 2)" folder in the V-Express. This feature is available in V-Server firmware release 2.8 or later.

If a direct gateway is configured, all H.323 calls will be forwarded directly to the designated gateway (like a Cisco gateway). 

 

How to Configure a H.323 ID for the V-Server?

H.323 ID is configurable in the V-Express in the firmware versions 2.8.6 or higher. In the V-Express, H.323 ID can be configured from the "Phone Numbering Plan (Part 2)." User also can use following command to configure H.323 ID: 

set h323 id <H.323 ID>

save profile 1

reset

Use "get h323"command to view current ID.

 

Tell Me More About the PSTN Gateway Feature

If a V-Server is configured as a PSTN gateway, it will forward all the calls from a H.323 source (a Cisco Gateway, for example) to the unit to the PSTN. In order to be a PSTN gateway, a V-Server at least have 1 available FXO port with PSTN line connected. If the PSTN gateway option is on, the V-Server will not accept calls to its FXS port. 

PSTN GW Option can be turned on from the 'Phone Numbering Plan (part 2) Screen. 

User also can use following command to configure a V-Server as a PSTN gateway:

set h323 pstngw <on/off>

save profile 1

reset

Use "get h323" command to see the current setting. 

 

How to Configure the H.323 Auto-answer Feature

This feature allows H.323 fast connection - connect before remote off-hook. But this is not the same as the H.323 Fast Start.

Following command is used to configure the auto-answer:

set h323 autoanswer <on/off>

save profile 1

reset

Use "get h323" command to see the current setting.
