Download the Software (both V-Express and Firmware)
All customers who purchased the V-SERVER product (both the 2-port version and 4-port version) from TEK DigiTel directly can update to this release. Please check out the new features, enhancements and known problems first to determine if you need this update.
Customers who obtained the TEK DigiTel products indirectly should contact their vendors before updating their firmware.

This is the preferred way to update the firmware for units that are already registered to the TEK DigiTel DDA and have a firmware version of 2.8.3 or higher (firmware version is accessible from the "System" folder of the V-Express or by typing the "get version" command from the command line).
Your unit will automatically download the new version from the TEK DigiTel Download Server when the unit re-registers to the DDA. To re-register your unit to the DDA, you may simply turn off and turn on the unit or issue a "register dda" command from the command line interface. If the download won't start, please check your group profile on the DDA to make sure the "Software Version" field is empty. You may also enter "030202" in that field and click the "Update" button.
The auto-download process will work in the background and doesn't interfere with the unit's normal functions. The download process will automatically resume from the point where it stopped if the unit is powered off or the unit's connection to the Internet is lost during the process.
The size of the new firmware is about 1.20 MB. The amount of time needed to complete the download will depend on the unit's Internet connection.
A set of commands are provided to check the status of the download process from the command line or remotely from the Telnet:
User can check the status of the download by issuing command "livedl status" from the command line. The command will display the current status (File Download or File Done), as well as the expecting file size from the download server if it is in "File Download" status.
User can use the "flash headers" command to display the header information of the firmware stored in the unit. User can check the file size of the firmware from the file header to make sure the file is correctly downloaded. The file size and checksum of the new firmware should be "1318663" and "2169977613" in the header information.
Also, if a new firmware is successfully downloaded, the unit will notify you when you log in using the command line or from the Telnet.
The new firmware will not be active until the user activates it. Since the unit can store 2 firmware code images, the current version will become an "alternative" code image when the new firmware code image is activated by the user. The user can use the activation process to activate the alternative code image (the old version) any time.
Remotely or Locally from the Command Line
User can Telnet to a unit or connect locally from the console port and update the firmware by issuing the following command:
livedl start <DDA IP Address> 3000 030202
The current DDA IP address is 66.28.39.57, so the command should be:
livedl start 66.28.39.57 3000 030202

Local Update Using Downloading Tool
User also can update the firmware locally using the Downloading Tool. To update the firmware using this way, a user has to download and install the V-Express software on a PC and download and save the firmware on that PC. The serial cable that came with your unit is needed to connect the PC's COM port to your unit's Console port.
After installing the V-Express, run the Downloading Tool (Users who have Chinese, Japanese and Korean versions of Windows should use the DBCS version of the Downloading Tool) found under the V-Express program group and follow the instruction. Users should choose the "Download New Firmware to the V-SERVER" option. Turn off the unit after the download has completed.
Note that the Downloading Tool will not work with Windows NT, Windows 2000 and Windows XP machines. It will only work with machines that have Windows 95 or Windows 98 running.
Users need to activate the new firmware after the download.
How to Activate the New Firmware
The old firmware will still be running after the update process until the user activates the new firmware. User will not lose their configuration after activating the new firmware and there is no need to reconfigure the unit. Activation options are listed below:
Activate Through Command Line or Remotely From Telnet:
Type following commands:
flash AcTiVaTe
reset
The commands are case sensitive.
Activate Using the Downloading Tool
Turn off the unit and run the Downloading Tool. Choose the "Replace current firmware with alternative one" option and follow the instruction.
V-Express (Version 3.2.1, 6,818 KB)
The Downloading Tool (both Downloading Tool for English version of Windows and Downloading Tool DBCS for Asian version of Windows) and Configuration Wizard is included in this install package. To install, please click on the downloaded "Setup.exe" file and follow the instruction. After installation, the version number under the "About" menu will display "3.2.1". That is normal.
